I. The Whispers of Willow Creek: The Miller’s Curse

Willow Creek, nestled deep in the Appalachians, appears idyllic. But beneath the surface beauty lies a tale etched in local lore: the Miller’s Curse. This story revolves around Silas Miller, owner of the town’s grist mill in the late 1800s. Silas was a man of ambition and, some whispered, questionable morals. He reportedly cheated farmers on their grain yields, amassing a fortune at their expense. When a severe drought hit, leading to widespread famine, Silas hoarded grain, further exacerbating the suffering.

One night, a mob of starving villagers confronted Silas at the mill. Accounts vary, but the most common version states that Silas was defiant, even mocking their plight. In the ensuing chaos, the mill caught fire, and Silas was trapped inside, perishing in the flames. Before he died, he allegedly cursed the town, prophesying that Willow Creek would never prosper and that his vengeful spirit would forever haunt the mill.

For decades, the burned-out shell of the mill remained a silent testament to the tragedy. Locals claimed to hear Silas’s agonized screams emanating from the ruins on moonless nights. Farmers reported unexplained equipment malfunctions and poor harvests in the fields surrounding the mill. More recently, paranormal investigators have flocked to the site, documenting EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena) that seem to capture Silas’s angry pronouncements. Some even claim to have seen a shadowy figure moving amongst the crumbling walls. The Miller’s Curse continues to cast a long shadow over Willow Creek, a chilling reminder of greed and its consequences.

II. The Phantom Hitchhiker of Highway 41: Mary Elizabeth’s Eternal Ride

Highway 41, stretching through the Georgia countryside, is known for its scenic beauty, but also for a more unsettling reason: the legend of Mary Elizabeth, the Phantom Hitchhiker. According to local stories, Mary Elizabeth was a young woman tragically killed in a car accident on a sharp curve on Highway 41 in the 1950s. She was on her way to meet her fiancé when a truck ran a red light, causing a head-on collision.

Ever since, travelers along Highway 41 have reported encountering a young woman in a white dress, thumbing for a ride near the site of the accident. Those who stop describe Mary Elizabeth as polite and seemingly distraught. She asks to be taken to a nearby town, often mentioning wanting to see her fiancé. However, when the driver approaches the destination, Mary Elizabeth vanishes from the car, leaving behind only a faint scent of roses and a lingering chill.

The story of Mary Elizabeth has been passed down through generations, with numerous documented accounts of encounters with the spectral hitchhiker. Some attribute her appearance to unfinished business, her spirit forever seeking the reunion she was denied. Others believe she is a warning to drivers to exercise caution on the dangerous stretch of Highway 41. Regardless of the explanation, Mary Elizabeth’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring power of love, even in death.

III. The Shadow Man of Blackwood Asylum: Ghosts of Unfortunate Souls

Blackwood Asylum, abandoned for over a century, stands as a stark reminder of a darker chapter in mental healthcare. Located in the remote woods of northern Maine, Blackwood was infamous for its brutal treatment methods and deplorable conditions. Patients were subjected to electroshock therapy, lobotomies, and solitary confinement, often with little or no legitimate medical justification.

Tales of inhumane experiments and patient mistreatment abound, fueling rumors of a malevolent presence within the asylum walls. The most persistent story is that of the “Shadow Man,” a tall, gaunt figure seen lurking in the shadows of the asylum’s corridors. He is often described as having glowing red eyes and emitting an aura of intense negativity.

Many believe the Shadow Man is the manifestation of the suffering and despair of the asylum’s former residents. Others speculate he is the spirit of Dr. Silas Blackwood, the asylum’s founder, who was rumored to be a sadistic and cruel man. Regardless of his identity, the Shadow Man is said to be responsible for the strange occurrences within the asylum, including disembodied voices, unexplained cold spots, and the feeling of being watched.

Daredevil teenagers and paranormal investigators alike have ventured into Blackwood, often reporting terrifying experiences. Some have claimed to be physically assaulted by unseen forces, while others have captured photographic evidence of ghostly apparitions. Blackwood Asylum remains a chilling reminder of the dark side of human nature and the enduring impact of trauma, a place where the echoes of past suffering still reverberate within its crumbling walls.

IV. The Weeping Woman of the Bayou: La Llorona’s American Cousin

While La Llorona is a familiar legend in Hispanic communities, a similar tale of a weeping woman haunts the bayous of Louisiana. Known simply as the “Weeping Woman of the Bayou,” this figure is said to be the spirit of a heartbroken woman who drowned her children in the swamp after being abandoned by her lover.

According to local lore, the woman was a beautiful Creole woman who fell deeply in love with a wealthy plantation owner. They had two children together, but the man eventually left her for a woman of his own social standing. Driven mad by grief and despair, the woman took her children to the bayou and drowned them. Realizing the enormity of her actions, she then plunged into the water herself.

Now, her spirit wanders the bayous, searching for her lost children. Her mournful cries can be heard echoing through the cypress trees, and her spectral figure is often seen gliding across the water’s surface. Those who hear her cries are said to be cursed with bad luck or even death.

Fishermen and trappers often tell stories of encountering the Weeping Woman, describing her as a gaunt figure with long, flowing hair and tear-streaked eyes. They say she will lure unsuspecting victims into the water with her cries, leading them to their doom. The legend of the Weeping Woman serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of heartbreak and the importance of protecting innocent children. It is a chilling reminder that even in the most beautiful landscapes, tragedy can lurk beneath the surface.

V. The Ghostly Piper of Edinburgh, Indiana: A Tune from Beyond

Edinburgh, Indiana, a small town with a rich history, harbors a unique ghostly tale: the Ghostly Piper. This story centers around a local legend of a Scottish immigrant who arrived in Edinburgh in the early 19th century. He was a talented bagpiper, known for his mesmerizing melodies that filled the town square during celebrations. He fell deeply in love with a local woman, but their families disapproved of the match.

One foggy night, the piper was waiting for his beloved near the creek when a tragic accident occurred. He slipped on the muddy bank and fell into the icy water. Unable to swim, he drowned, his beloved bagpipes sinking with him.

Ever since, residents have reported hearing the mournful sounds of bagpipes emanating from the creek, especially on foggy nights. Some claim to see a spectral figure standing near the water, playing a haunting tune. The melody is said to be the same one the piper used to play for his beloved.

The legend of the Ghostly Piper has become an integral part of Edinburgh’s folklore, attracting tourists and paranormal enthusiasts. Local businesses have even incorporated the piper’s image into their branding. The Ghostly Piper serves as a poignant reminder of lost love and the enduring power of music, a haunting melody echoing through the ages. It’s a reminder that some stories, like music, transcend even death.

  3. For all of youse celebrating Thanksgiving, I hope your Turkey doesn’t get up & walk/fly around, like it always did to my intellectual mentors: Larry, Curly & Moe! Cheers Warren, 7fh Stooge!

  4. Mort buddy, please consider the placement of your YouTube ads…man not only are they between every story but within the story too.

    1. Its not him doing it. Youtube just sucks. They fix it when brought to their attention though.

Try skipping to the last few seconds of the video and then replaying it usually takes care of it for me lol

    2. @maryjanedoethanks for the assist. I didn’t know about skipping to the end.

FYI Mort has the ability to place ads where he wants them and can control how many. I have another YouTube Channel under a different alias and its monetized and can control how many and where ads occur. Mort has this too…..

    3. @Rktect3902 no problem! And i know that, lol but lots of creators have been having the same issue with the automatic stuff somehow getting turned back on even though they try to make sure its off. Raven Reads is another one that has been battling this problem for the last few months. Much love 💜

  5. You have a sponsee I LOVE! Dossier makes great inspired by fragrances. My personal favorite is Woody Vanilla

  6. The ads are getting out of hand. I used to watch mortis media every night for the past 5 years but I’ve switched to other channels recently because I’m tired of drifting off being on the verge of falling asleep just to have a super loud ad screaming in my ear. Feels like they are just trying to force you to pay for premium at this point.

    1. I was thinking the exact same thing… makes it nearly impossible to potentially drift off. I get it, it’s his content but other channels I’ll choose due to minimal interruption

    2. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve just returned after months. The ads drive me away by being too loud and too frequent.
I love Mort’s voice, and I know those ads are how he earns the money to keep doing the shows, but there has to be a compromise.

    3. All ads should be at the beginning to get them out of the way or nonexistent even better. But I hate when they cut-off a story mid-sentence etc. YouTube do better with policy regarding interrupting our favorite storyteller 😊.

  7. Yay Thank you for these stories Mort ❤️🖤 you are awesome Stay Awesome bro love you 💞 can’t wait to fall asleep to these stories and let the Darkness Take Control 😊❤️

  8. I knew the one with the view of the cemetery was a Japanese story. They are really superstitious about living near cemeteries. Don’t blame them! Also, the prison guards being scared of just your average ghost? I think they are experiencing something way worse, otherwise tough people like them wouldn’t be so scared. The dog like being in the cemetery, that is a guardian, sort of like a hell hound. You need to ask permission to go into cemeteries or you risk encountering these beings. If you hear something in your head, unless you know you are schizophrenic (and do check that out), you may be hearing a spirit or spirits talking to you. This is a form of clairaudience or clear hearing.

  9. Hi mortis I’m sorry for being
    Late king thanksgiving last
    Night aswell Black Friday.
    I’m enjoying your stories now
    Takecare always mortis

  10. Hey Mort! Thanks for another awesome video, I don’t understand what people are talking about with all the ads-but I share a YT premium account so maybe I’m missing it. Your voice is so soothing and perfect for drifting off to sleep with. I will enjoy this video while I get ready for my new day. G’day from Australia 🇦🇺😎🦘✌🏻

  11. Can we take a break from the ghost stories? Throw some bigfoot or other cryptids in there once in a while. Appreciate you either way.

  12. I’ve been watching this channel for like easily 7+ years but I have to stop. The ads are ridiculous and I’m not paying for YT. It’s gotten so bad, if other channels were doing a similar amount I’d assume yt was forcing it but this legit negates any reason to watch/listen. It makes me SO sad. Even if there were like 5 ads right in the beginning or at the end I’d watch all of them but shock-waking up to the loud ridiculously raucous audio of ads puts my heart into panic mode when I’m falling asleep.
    , I’ll miss you Morty
