Today, I had a lone stroll to Bob’s Rock located in stapleford Nottinghamshrie, a less known sandstone cave amongst many in the Nottinghamshire area. It’s been on the list to visit for some time and managed to locate it with the help of a dog walker. Now surrounded by what appears as a bmx track, the cave was believed to be used by and named after an 11 century Norman land owner, Robert de Heriz.
However, there is a popular legend that the name could be associated to French prisoners of war who were set the task of breaking rocks and stones on the site.
Its biggest claim to frame and one of the reasons I visited is that methodist preacher John Wesley used the site. He used the pulpit to preach his message to the people of Stapleford in 1774.
